Q: The EML is flashing after OBD flash

A: This is usually because the self adaptive parameters have been cleared after the flash. The flashing EML means that the engine ECU is requesting a phonic wheel learn. This procedure can be carried out with no equipment. Run the engine to above 70*c, then carry out 3 x accelerations of 6000rpm. the engine must rest at idle between each accelerations. the EML will clear when carried out sucesfully. By revving 3 times, the ecu takes an average air gap reading from the crank sensor to the crank pulley, this is to allow for oscillations in crank pulley manufacture and also end float on the crankshaft. |This allows for better misfire detection

Q: On a euro 5 car (has stop/start feature) the engine will not turn over after OBD flash

A: This is because self adaptive parameters in the ECU have been cleared after the flash. the ECU requires some simple coding in order to work DTCs logged in the ECU will be:

GEARBOX TYPE RECOGNITION No tools are required, simply turn the ignition on, depress clutch pedal for 5 secs, release clutch, then this will allow the engine to start.

PHONIC WHEEL LEARN see above ^^^

NEUTRAL POSTION SENSOR LEARN A good level diagnostic tool is required to carry out this operation. Make sure the gear lever is neutral and check that it is returning to center ok, then carry out procedure as per the tool instruction

For newer MULTI-AIR engines using the MARELLI IAW 8GMF ECU, you may be presented with DTC P1320 - UNIAIR MODULE LEARN. A dealer tool will be required to reset the UNIAIR MODULE data after the flash. THE REQUIRED ACTION IS IN THE ENGINE ECU CONFIGURATION MENU USING EXAMINER OR WITECH AND CARRIED OUT UNDER ECU REPLACEMENT

KNOWN WORKING TOOLS FOR NEUTRAL LEARN

  • FIAT EXAMINER
  • FIAT WITECH
  • MULTIECUSCAN WITH ELM 327 INTERFACE
  • GENUINE AUTOCOM
