There are many different flash tools on the market, all of which have different level's of vehicle coverage. Below is a summary of the most commonly used Bench Flashing tools today

If you are starting up a business in the Chip Tuning industry we strongly recommend you buy Genuine Professional Tuning Tool's. We would advise against buying a cloned or knock off tool. We must remind you that the cost of a new Ecu can be £500 - £2000 so make sure you have all the necessary and correct tool's for the job. All BDM/BOOT/JTAG flash tool's have their strength and weak point's so be sure that you are using the correct tool for that specific ECU



Alientech KTAG

The Alientech KTAG is a tool for booting ECUs. That means that you are able to tune all ECUs which are not possible to tune over OBD. (Tricore with Tuning Protection, Misubishi ECUs, Delco ECUs...)

There are exact documentations available and delivered with the Alientech KTAG unit how to open the ECUs and how to read out the original dataset from the ecu and write the new data set into the ecu. There are a wide variety of BDM adapters/boards available for KTAG which require a special stand. With these adapters, the need for soldering inside the ecu vastly reduced. The Tool is delivered with all flat cables and Boot Cable. For more advanced ecu's ie tricore then singular boot pin probes are also available to avoid soldering making the job even safer to carry out.

Note: when ordering the KTAG hardware, the individual protocols must also be purchased seperatly. These protocols will enable different types of ecu's to be worked with.

There are other all in one tools such as the CMD, which has the ability to bench flash in a number of different way depending on the ECU type. As with the KTAG these protocols and added extras such a frame and adapters must be purchased additionally to give full functionality.


CMD KEY FEATURES


  • BDM Motorola Mpc - for a full read of motorola microprocessor ECU's
  • Bosch MEDC17 TRICORE BOOT - This function can bypass TPROT (tuning protection via obd) and read the ecu on the bench
  • C16x / ST10fxx BOOT - This function allows you to read the st10/c16x chip in a bootloaded mode on the bench where reading the ECU cannot be done over OBD. This is generally for the older ecus such as bosch ME7 AND EDC15

The EOBD2 tool by FGtech is probably the only tool of its kind that when purchased comes with full OBD protocols for cars, truck, bikes, marine, agricultural, all boot modes for bench flashing including, BDM/JTAG/TRICORE/OBD UNLOCK and checksums.

As the genuine tool is not very common, and not sold in the already over populated franchise/slave market, people who own the genuine tool are few and far between, so a true review of this tool is not possible having never used one.

If the tool operates as it is sold then for the money, this is a very cost effective and versatile tool.
